Hello everyone, today I am going to be writing about self driving cars a thing that were merely science fiction until relatively recently. However not to be confused by the standard autonomous car which is designed to take control from the driver in specific situations. There have been great involvement by large companies such as Google and Tesla regarding self driving vehicles as public interest is at an all time high.
Below I am going to run through the different Pro's and Con's of Self Driving Vehicles.
Pro's of Self Driving Cars
- We are well known for taking unnecessary risks and bending the rules for our enjoyment, however self driving cars will be designed to obey all rules of the road causing less incidents.
- I believe traffic would run far more smoothly as AI can process and coordinate with high efficiency. Resulting in far fewer traffic jams.
- Owners would be able to immerse themselves in entertainment features as their is no longer a human driver that can be distracted.
- The more energy efficient vehicles would also lead to less emissions tackling climate change.
- Speed limits may be increased, shortening the time it takes to reach your desired location.
- People that suffer from disabilities not allowing them to drive may now be able to experience the freedom of car travel.
Con's of Self Driving Cars
- Obviously the main concern for most people is the cost, which is likely to be over the 100k mark.
- Commuting services such as Truck, Taxi, Uber and Bs drivers may lose their jobs as self driving vehicles take over.
- Pedestrians and Self-Driving cars are notorious for disrupting the cars sense of human intent due to unpredictability.
- Could lead to privacy concerns as large amounts of data and user information will have to be collected.
- Possibility of hackers bypassing security features and gaining access to the vehicles controls.
- Self Driving cars may have issues operating in harsh weather conditions if it interferes with the vehicles sensors.
